Michel L. Tremblay
Dear friends and colleagues,

Eleven years ago I joined the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre (GCRC), known then as the McGill Cancer Centre, with high hopes and big expectations. Today, I am proud of the success of the Centre and the realization that my expectations have been exceeded thanks to the dedication of our researchers, staff, donors and partners. The remarkable involvement and generosity from Rosalind and Morris Goodman and their family since 2008 has seen the Centre evolve into a world-renowned research centre.

Recognized as a hub of excellence and innovation in cancer research, our researchers have merited numerous awards and have incredibly received nearly $23 million in grants and donations in the past year alone. Several GCRC researchers have made international headlines by virtue of their discoveries and personal awards, many of whom we proudly acknowledge are worldwide leaders in their respective fields.

The GCRC provides state-of-the-art research infrastructure to its researchers and collaborates with the entire McGill community, enhancing synergy between the academic and clinical laboratories at the university, our basic and clinical colleagues at the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute (MUHC-RI) and at the Lady Davis Research Institute of the Jewish General Hospital. Within the McGill University Life Sciences Complex, the GCRC provides a world-class environment that facilitates the recruitment of outstanding young researchers and retains our top scientists, allowing them to work at the forefront of research innovation.

Our vision of cancer research is one of partnerships and collaborations for interactive research programs, locally and internationally. The Centre recently launched the Laboratory for Therapeutic Development, born from a unique private sector partnership with GeminX, and successful funding from CQDM and Genome Quebec. The Goodman Therapeutic Lab is an incredibly valuable tool allowing the translation of our discoveries towards clinical applications.

In addition, our ongoing partnership with the M.D. Moross Institute for Cancer Research at the Weizmann Institute of Science, one of the most prestigious scientific institutes in the world, speaks volumes about the importance of our commitment and the scientific excellence of our investigators.

Further research programs have benefitted from the recent award of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research training grant in cancer research between the Segal Cancer Centre, the Research Institute of the MUHC and the GCRC. This is an extraordinary milestone in ensuring that our next generation of researchers are excellently trained to conduct multidisciplinary investigations in oncology at McGill University and beyond.

With the continued support of our wonderful donors, the impressive leadership of our scientists, researchers and staff, and the innovative partnerships we established, we will continue to make truly significant contributions and achieve our mission to assist in the eradication of cancer.
